Welcome to the JH Choppers 2006 FXSTI EFI Chopper Project Page.

Since the stock Softail has a 200mm tire, the customer wanted to keep it at 200mm. Just add new wheels, drive pulley, rotors, fender, structs and an air ride system.

Air Ride System: The air ride system needed to be modified before it would fit onto the 2006. The bearing holes were small, so we board then out on Mill. Some adjustments were also made on the upper mount for max travel of the swing arm. The transmission was placed in to check the clearance with the larger air shocks. We still need to fabricate a mounting bracket for the air pump and solenoids.

Custom Fender Struts: The stock fender struts needed to be removed for the bolt on custom struts. The new struts are curved and will be painted to match fender. The fender will be welded to the struts to create a signal assembly: struts and fender.

Modification of the Drive Pulley: The stock pulley on the 2006 is narrow, about 0.750. Harley did this to accommodate for the 200mm stock rear tire. The after market pulley manufactures do not make a 0.750 pulley yet. Therefore we machined the new pulley to match the stock narrow one. A custom ring was also made to hold the belt on the pulley.

Modification of the Wheel Hub: After the pulley was modified for the narrow belt, the hub was removed from the new wheel. The hub was then turned down to offset the pulley closer to the wheel. This will make the new wheel and pully align just like the stock wheel and pully.

Wheel Alignment: The modified pulley and wheel hub are reassembled. The wheel alignment is checked at the swing arm with an alignment tool. The rear wheel is also verified to be in the middle of the frame.

Modification of the license plate bracket: The new license plate bracket needed to be modified if we wanted to keep the stock axle. The bracket was too wide, thus the axle bolt didn't have enough threads on the shaft. A hole was bored out to recess the axle bolt back to the stock position.

Fender Mount: With the air ride slammed low an old drive belt was placed onto the tire. The fender was then spot welded to the stuts at the slammed height. The final picture shows the finder and tire alignment at the ride height.
